Administrative Ethics
There is an article that spoke about two women who both had heart attacks on the same day. Both of the women went to the same hospital. The hospital was not equipped to handle two heart attacks that happen that close. This article bothered me because of how this situation was handled. It should not have happen the way it happened. Instead of trying to save both lives a doctors’ made a decision that only one of them needed the surgery. In health care ethics supposed to stay with you. Treat people with respect and let them know that you would do your best to take care of them. There are ...view middle of the document...

We can also assume with Sarah that her family loves and needs her as well. At 430 in the morning Sarah has a massive heart attack. Sarah is unconscious. Sarah is taken to Chicago’s Memorial Hospital. After speaking with the Doctor it is decided that Sarah needs a balloon angiography. Sara would need this surgery to save her life. After knowing what had to be done to save Sarah’s life and preparing the room together they forgot about the other massive heart attack patient Marguerite.

Memorial Hospital
Under the assumption that Chicago’s Memorial Hospital is a hospital that is equipped to handle emergency after emergency. It has the best to offer when comes to caring for their patients. Hospitals are supposed to help keep people alive if it is the patient’s wish. There is huge dependability, and trust that is given to the hospital staff. After reading the article Chicago’s Memorial Hospital has work to do. Management, communication, respect for life, and the ethics values are in question in this article. The patient’s in this article are not being treated fairly. The saddest thing is that they do not know this; they are not given the opportunity to go to another hospital to receive help.
The Dilemma
There are two heart attack patients in a hospital that is not equipped to take care of both the patients. The honorable thing to do is to take the first patient who was at the hospital. When the second patients call came to the hospital it should have been directed to another hospital that was able to care for her. This would have given Marguerite and Sarah the opportunity to recover from their massive heart attacks.
The Decision
Instead of sending Sarah, the second heart attack patient to another hospital, she was sent to Memorial Hospital. The hospital calls Dr. K at his home and told him that another heart attack patient was sent to the hospital. Dr. K was also told that his patient was older than the other patient and did not have a great chance for a full recovery, so they were going to give the surgery to the other patient. It took the staff a long time to get Sarah stable so she could have surgery. It took at least six hours to get Sarah stable and Marguerite could have had her surgery and been in the recovery area. This hospital, the ambulance, the doctors, and other staff members knew they already had one massive heart attack victim. Working in a hospital you should...
