This paper will work to address ethical breakdowns by current leaders, looking at why the breakdowns occurred, and whether or not this was due to using a particular style that did not work. It will discuss the concepts of the traits and behaviors in terms of what it takes to be a great leader, and look at the question of whether or not an individual may behave in an unethical manner in their personal lives but still remain a great leader.

Financial institutions on Wall Street are perpetuating financial fraud on a large scale, and yet not only are these companies still in existence, but no action has been taken against their CEOs, the individuals responsible for the decisions to commit these acts in the first place. In the case of Wall Street firms, the ethical breakdowns occurred for the simplest reason of all, because the individuals thought they could get away with it and not get caught. In spite of being caught, it may be said that they are still getting away with their actions.
Looking next to the Ford Pinto, an analysis of the situation shows that the executives did not believe they were making an unethical choice, even though when the car was rear ended it had a disturbing tendency to leak fuel and then burst into flames (Bazerman & Tenbrusel, 2011). The executives saw the decision not from an ethical standpoint, but purely from a business perspective, realizing that it would cost the company less to deal with potential lawsuits than it would to completely redesign the car and the assembly line, which was already setup (Bazerman & Tenbrusel, 2011).
In addition, it has been made clear that Justice Department officials are fully aware of the fact that flaws in forensic work would have the potential to lead to the convictions of innocent people, though they have kept this information to themselves.
