Ethical Issues in Business:
I and two business associates have decided to start a small consulting business. We will be providing management consulting expertise and service nonprofit organizations. Many of our clients will be paying for this management consultation using federal funds. We intend to have between fifteen and twenty employees in addition to ourselves. We bring with us the highest ethical credentials but we feel that it is imperative that we implement a code of ethics/conduct and require our future employees to use it as a guideline for performing their duties to our clients. The emphasis will weigh heavily on social responsibility and a high standard of ethical ...view middle of the document...
Employees will be required to comply with all safety policies and regulations and report any unsafe conditions to staff.
(D) Social and environmental responsibility: Employees are required to maintain and practice an understanding of the social issues that surround their work environment and to communicate that understanding to others.
(E) Company Assets: Company assets will be used only for the performance of work related activities. Employees will be expected to maintain company assets in good working order and protect assets from damage or theft.
(F) Professionalism: Employees will be encouraged to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times whether dealing with customers, venders or co-workers.
My belief is that every employee, including management, should undergo ethics training as a requirement for employment. I believe this training will be of great importance to our employees who will eventually be presented with an ethical situation during their professional careers. I believe we can accomplish this with any combination of the following tools. The Human Resource Department will be responsible for the ethics training and compliance for the company.
(A) Presentation during hire: At time of hire employee will attend a short abbreviated code of ethics informational and be given a general code of ethics handout.
(B) Classroom sessions: During the first thirty days of employment each employee will be required to attend a two hour company paid training session. These sessions will cover the company’s views of ethics and how they apply to our organization.
(C) Use of a facilitator and live audience: On occasion the company will employ a public/ motivational speaker to present the topic of ethical behavior in the workplace. These sessions will be company paid with mandatory attendance required.
(D) Online training/visuals: The Human Resource Department will be required to develop an online refresher program the employees can access at their leisure. Also, we will employ a printing company to design and print visual aid handouts for the employees.
The purpose of these ethics training classes should be to encourage the new employee to follow the code of conduct of the company. It should foster the desire to support and promote ethical practices and demonstrate that every decision should be in the best interest of the company. ...
