Ethical and Socially Responsive Business
I believe that every company should encourage a relationship of trust, loyalty,
honesty, and responsibility among staff members at all levels. It’s important that each
staff member works together to achieve excellence in a business, so the code of conduct
is put in place. The purpose of the code is to provide guidance and set common ethical
standards for employees from the top of the food chain to the bottom of the food chain.
Some of the areas that I find to be significant of importance in a business are sexual
harassment, discrimination and simply being professional in a work environment.

Employees should perform
to the best of their abilities and be professional. Employees should not gossip and attempt
to undermine management and if employees do participate in these actions they will be
forced to either “get with the program” or seek new employment. In order for this to
happen steps should be taking to insure that the employees are following the basis of the
code of conduct.
Chipotle code of conduct is basically a set of standards describing the behavior we
expect from people in our lives away from work. Another added reason for the code is
the framework of relevant laws, regulations and internal policies - but they also recognize
that these do not govern all behavior. Chipotle feels it’s important for all clients and other
stakeholders - to understand exactly what they stand for and how they can expect them to
The code of ethics is only the first important step in ensuring that employees act in an
ethical manner. Once the code of ethics has been established employees can be
encouraged to follow the code by means of:
* Ethics training
* Setting and following policies and procedures
* Including ethical behavior in the performance appraisal process
In order for employees to operate within the organization’s code of ethics they must
first understand what the ethics are. Ethics training provides employees with the
opportunity to gain an understanding of the organization’s ethics and their appropriate
application. Ethical training can be included in: Specific training sessions aimed at ethics
in the workplace and Management training programs. This kind of training will happen
every six month.
Following Policies And Procedures
Most organizations have policies and procedures in place to ensure that the code of ethics
is followed appropriately. For example, the procedure that must be followed when a
disciplinary matter occurs may be formally documented. In this way, the disciplinary
actions will be conducted in an ethical manner as described in the code of ethics.
Wherever the restaurant has policies and procedures it is important that these are
followed so that employees:
* Are dealt with fairly and equally
* Can see that ethical behavior is the only acceptable form of behavior
