Ethical and Moral Issues in Business
In today’s business environment employees and manager feel pressure to compromise his or her ethical and moral beliefs. In industry, businesses are encountering issues that are wide spread throughout the industry. On the company side managers are dealing with company specific issues. What are some of the common ethical problems businesses are dealing with today? Knowing the difference between ethical and moral issues and the difference between personal ethics and business ethics will help managers and employees make better choices in the workplace.

Differences between Personal Ethics and Business Ethics
What is the difference between personal ethics and business ethics? Personal ethics is an individual’s beliefs about morality and what is right and wrong. Personal ethics define who you are and they are what other knows you by. One other difference between personal ethics and business ethics is that with personal ethics one is dealing with his or her conscience. Business ethics is how a business deals with their everyday environment. Businesses ethical values can be very diverse. The businesses ethical values help mold how the company deals with society as a whole and how they deal with customers on a one-on-one basis. For example, in one’s personal life he or she may encounter someone who is in need. How one deals with the situation is based on his or her ethical beliefs. An example of business ethics is when an employee sees another employee stealing or doing personal business on the job. The companies ethics policy states that this is against the rules and that any instance should be documented. One may want to turn a blind eye to this type of behavior because they do not want to get involved. The company policy ethically binds the employee to report it.
In the workplace ethics and morals clash as one feels the pressure to compromise his or her ethical and moral values. The issues that an employee or manager faces are increasing on a regular basis and the company’s ethical values can play against one’s personal morals. Being honest with oneself and never compromising ones integrity are essential to the success of any individual.
