1-The chapter describes different marketing orientations .Discuss the applicability of each to Avon's international operations?
There are five marketing orientations described in this chapter which are production, sales ,customer, strategic marketing together with social marketing .
Concerning the first one which is the production orientation we find that Avon has verified its products so as to satisfy the different needs of its customers throughout the world .When Avon decided to distribute its products out of the United States it entered the Canadian markets in a focus on sales orientation.

Another thing is that The sales of Avon depends on the growth of women in the cosmetics-using age group.
one more thing is that when the population increases the sales of Avon increases.-Because of working full time, the number of women seeking part-time employment might be affected .
Finally ,the increase in the members of the middle class increases the potential customers of Avon .
Another way that the socioeconomic and demographic changes could affect Avon is the available number of customers and salespersons in each country it enters .
4-How might a global recession, such as the one that began in 2008, impact Avon's operations?
The global recession is the slowdown in the global economy that affected all of the economical sectors throughout the world.
The international trade has certainly been one of the most severely hit economic activities that suffered from the global recession.
Many companies throughout the world look seriously at cost structures and introduce major modifications so as to maintain their profit levels .
The households, especially in the US, experienced a sharp reduction in wealth as a result of the global recession, the thing that resulted in a drop in the demand of the complementary goods in particular.
Avon's products such as the cosmetics,fragrences and toiletries all can be considered as complementary goods so the demand for Avon's products might be affected negatively .In spite of that some of Avon products can be considered by some women as essentials so they continue using them even if they have financial problems .

On the other hand, the global recession has increased the availability of people to sell independently .Another thing is that when the situation in the U S looked gloomy for Avon, the outlook in the foreign markets looked brighter.
