Sam Glass is the Product Group Supervisor of the Landon Care Products. Sam hired a young Alex Sander; who is a smart take charge individual with a lots of potential as a Project Manager to “shake things up or make waves” concerning the Landon product team. Part of Alex job description was to launch products within Landon Care Products quickly. Alex was able to successfully launch products quickly even though he had no prior experience with packaging, manufacturing, or sales promotion before landing a career at Landon. His previous position was a senior account executive for toiletries, swimwear, and sports equipment accounts at Barnhill and Cooper Advertising Agency.
Alex has alienated his staff by being pushing, angry and micromanaging his staff. Alex is a very smart person, and as manager, his managerial numbers are impressive; but he has zero people skills and zero emotional intelligence which has negatively impacted the product team.
Landon Care Products was brought by a multibillion-dollar European beauty company named Avant-Garde in 2007. Alex response regarding receiving the performance review is “this process doesn’t really concern me.”
Alex does not get Sam’s point as discussed in their initial meeting to discuss the Alex’s 360° performance review. Alex states either he will stay at Landon on the managerial tract or starts his own business in which he can really have some say.” Alex really doesn’t get it, he goes on to state if he decides to start his business he will master it, spending his waking hours leaning all aspects of the business; however, he mentioned everything but learning his lack of people skills. Sam also states that the 360° performance review is a waste of time and he already knows everything that is in the packet, even though his boss Sam asked Alex to review the performance review for a meeting the next day.
Sam Glass would like to keep Alex at Landon and as a...
