In a real life setting, one determines the level of education he wants to get in life. Having this in mind helps prepare the individual to choose a profession that will help over the course of life. To choose this profession, one has to determine what his educational goals are as this will help you follow the necessary path required in the completion of this goals of attaining a higher level of education. According to Leddy and Peppers Conceptual Bases of professional Nursing(Lucy J Hood, 2010) BSN prepared nurses are competent in providing direct care to patient using nursing process, use of communication skills and the ability to coordinate care with the team and other health personals. Also they have the ability to collect patient data and as well develop a good plan of care in patient management.
According to Johnson,(1990) studies shows that BSN prepared nurses also have stronger communication and problem solving skills.
Associate degree nurse(ADN) have nursing education in a lower level which provides them with ability to practice nursing care that focuses on the clinical skills and a task oriented care. They also function in a more structured setting like hospital compare to BSN nurses who provide care to persons who have more complex health in a variety of settings including hospital and community. According to Hood, healthcare is not only centered in hospitals but also throughout the community as preventive care.
Patient Identification Situation
The quality of nursing care and patient outcome is determined by the educational background of the nurse in a nursing practice. BSN prepared nurse uses administrative skills in delegation of work, planning, organizing and managing health of a person. Nurses with BSN degree has the qualities that helps in lowering mortality and failure to rescue rates in a health care facility.(Health Services Research, 43(4), 1145-1163). Advanced education provides BSN nurses the knowledge of critical thinking, clinical and analytical skills which helps them face a vast scope of nursing practice thereby increasing positive patient outcome.
