Effective administrators and stakeholders know the importance of planning and how certain changes will impact their schools. The decisions that are made will determine whether or not the schools culture and climate remains in a healthy state. While change is feared due to thoughts of not knowing what to expect, one can argue that continuous improvement planning is needed in educational environments to ensure goals and strategies are met. ” (ISSLC, 2008) The Jordan High School improvement plan shows that administrators will formulate data-based goals and plans to implement the vision. (ISLLC 2008: 1B)
Standard 2 of the ISLLC Standard states, “An education leader promotes the success of every student by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.” (ISSLC, 2008) The school improvement plan demonstrates a collaborative and trusting culture that will persistently require high expectations. (ISLLC 2008: 2A)
ISSLC Standard 4 states, “A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by collaborating with faculty, family, and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.” (ISSLC, 2008) “The Jordan High School Improvement Plan consist of planning school events to communicate school initiatives, and offer opportunity for questions, to all stakeholders with advance notice.” (http://www.dpsnc.net) Fall Open House, AP Night, Parents Nights and ESL Night will demonstrate working towards the required goal.
Furthermore, Standard 6 of the ISSLC Standards states, “An education leader promotes the success of every student by understanding, responding to, and influencing the political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.” (ISSLC, 2008) The school improvement plan demonstrates this standard by fostering a culture of appropriate behavior and developing, implementing, maintaining a school wide honor code.
Plan leads to School Improvement in Relation to Vision
The vision of Jordan High School is, “We can whenever, and wherever we choose, successfully teach all children whose schooling is of interest to us. It is imperative for our students, our school and our community that efforts of Jordan High School are successful for all students. There are no excuses, we cannot fail.”(www.dpsnc.net) According to research, “There is a positive and high level relationship between the school administrators instructional leadership style and school culture.” (Sahin, 2011) This is shown at Jordan High School.
