CHAPTER I
Introduction

Technology came from the Greek word tekhnologia which means systematic treatment of an art or craft. It is the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing up on such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science.
E-learning refers to the use of electronic media and information and communication technologies (ICT) in education. It is broadly inclusive of all forms of educational technology in learning and teaching. MyE-class is a course management system that enables an efficient delivery of high quality online education. It has a complete set of easy-to-use teaching and learning tools. Using Content Modules, instructors can integrate online content with a wide range of learning activities, contributing to a more holistic learning experience.
E-books are electronic books that are text- and image-based publication in digital form produced on, published by, and readable on computers or other digital devices. According to Oxford Dictionary of English, e-book is an electronic version of a printed book.
E-learning is simply education with the use of electronic device typically on the internet. According to Webopedia, e-learning is essentially the network-enabled transfer of skills and knowledge. It refers to using electronic applications and processes to learn. E-learning applications and processes include web-based learning, computer-based learning, virtual classrooms and digital collaboration. “E-learning refers to the systematic use of networked information and communication technology in teaching and learning” (Naidu, 2003)
In other words, the computer screen, the keyboard and the internet connection are all set to gradually replace the blackboard, the chalk and the physical school. The most attractive feature of e-learning is that it is student-centered. It accommodates individual preferences and needs. At the same time, it empowers students of various backgrounds to have equal access to the best resources and reference materials, lecture sessions, tutoring and experienced teachers.
E-learning helps the students with the covered topics in this study by means of learning assessments that will be taught. The students can repeat the provided learning assessments until they understand them and get the correct answer. By that practice the students will be able to store the knowledge that they get from the learning assessments and be able to answer the tests that will be given to them easily.
E-learning at DLSU-D is known as the Schoolbook. Schoolbook is the University’s virtual learning environment tool that enriches learning and strengthens student-teacher and student-student exchanges beyond the classroom. Faculty can create online classes to provide supplemental resources and activities that will enrich learning experience beyond the classroom. Students can use various resources to organize their student life and further develop 21st century skills. Parents can get more information about student activities and communicate with faculty. With Schoolbook, the University moves toward creating a safe virtual community that reflects the Lasallian values of faith, service and communion.
