Internet Addiction The topic of this evaluative research project is Internet addiction. This addiction is more serious than most people think. It can lead to serious problems that can impair families, relationships, and hinder job performance and duties. The symptoms of Internet addiction are numerous and can be mistakenly associated to other causes, which explains why many people addicted to the net are also in denial. I will take a personal position that is against this addiction and it's consequences.Although the psychological symptoms of Internet addiction could be associated to other causes, they're distinctly similar to being addicted to drugs or caffeine. Like any other addiction, problems can occur. Relationships are impaired when Internet addiction occurs. Since the individual spends most of their time in solitude (just them and the Internet) spouses and family are often ignored. At this point, the relationship will break down from arguments over Internet usage and concealment of time spent online. The Internet allows for a person to escape the often harsh realities of life. Many people yield to this temptation and spend less time in contact with real people and more time on the Internet; it's less threatening that way. A latent consequence of Internet addiction is the financial problems that may occur. Since getting online is not free, large bills for Internet activity and use of online services can pile up, especially if a broadband or speedy Internet connection is utilized. Some addicts may even compulsively spend money at online auctions or sites that accept credit cards. Often, they buy and buy before thinking of the consequences and importance of the purchase.Why is the Internet so appealing to people?
