Every parent has their own way of parenting. They all may seem different, but every single one falls into one of three parenting styles. The three parenting styles are permissive, authoritarian and authoritative. Each style has its own characteristics which sets it apart from the others. When observing every parent’s individual style, it is easy to see that the style is one of the three basic ones.

Many children, whose parents are authoritarian parents, equate success with love. The child qualities of children raised by authoritarian parents usually anxious, easily frustrated and are not likely to participate in illegal activities.
“The authoritative parent attempts to direct the child's activities but in a rational, issue-oriented manner. The parent encourages verbal give and take, shares with the child the reasoning behind her policy, and solicits his objections when he refuses to conform. Both autonomous self-will and disciplined conformity are valued.” (Baumrind, 1966) Authoritative parents believe in developing a close and nurturing relationship with their children. At the same time, they maintain a reasonably high level of expectations and rules. The authoritative parenting style is the hardest to fulfill. The child qualities of children raised by authoritative parents usually are lively, confident and social.
I believe that authoritative parenting is the healthiest and most balanced style to use to raise children. It brings discipline and nurturing together, getting the best of the other two styles. I was brought up in an authoritative household and will raise my children using the same style in the future.
