The best way to distinct between the sources of secondary research is to define each. Primary sources are those that are direct and un-interpreted records of a subject that you are researching. A primary source can be just about anything such as books, artifacts, or even patents. Secondary sources are ones that build on primary sources. Analyzing, interpreting, and assessing primary information are examples of secondary. Tertiary sources are ones which present summaries of the current state of research topics. Some examples are dictionaries, web sites, or almanacs.

1 How does qualitative research differ from quantitative research?

Quantitative methods are ones that focus on numbers and repetition rather than on meaning and experience.  Quantitative methods provide information which is easy to analyze and more common to be reliable than others.  Quantitative methods use scientific and the experimental approach which are often criticized for not being in depth. Qualitative methods of research are ways of gathering information in which describe the meaning of the findings rather than a statistical or number focused analysis. While qualitative methods are not as reliable as quantitative, the method gains in validity. They provide a more of an in depth analysis. It would be dependent on the goal that was to be achieved when deciding to use either quantitative or qualitative methods of research. If we were looking at systematic approaches and ways of comparison then we would use quantitative. If we wanted a more in-depth description of an analysis then we would use the latter. In many situations a mixed of both is the most beneficial.
