Decision- Making Paper

The purpose for this paper is to describe the group decision-making process in any organization. The paper will have one successful and one unsuccessful experience that involved with group decision-making. After these example the paper will discus the factor that affects the group’s overall effectiveness, drawing from the text. In any organization individual, team, and group decision-making process is part of every day life. As long as those individuals are trying to persuade are aware of the bias individual have towards one side of the arguments then individuals are still persuading as oppose to manipulating.
Creative thinker is when individual stumbles upon a new idea to a better improve an old idea to make things work better. Whether or not individuals know or realize it each person out in the world is creative in their own way. Individuals use their minds and the knowledge that an individuals has obtained. This can be done purposely by setting out a goal to improve the old or by accident. Creative thinkers are more subjective versus objectiveness, they are more visual than verbal, and more lateral than vertical.
Logical thinker is one of the most used thinking styles. Logical thinking is divided by into either deductive or inductive thinking. Deductive thinking is explained better by a concept known as syllogisms. Syllogisms are explained by a train of thought that has a conclusion from two different premises. According to Kirby & Goodpaster in syllogism there is a major and minor premise. The premise contains the overall idea or team. It explains the major part of the concept that is trying to be explained. The minor premise supports the major concept by giving and example of the broader picture. Most individual use this way of thinking but are not aware that they are doing it.
When making a decision it is not there is nothing involved for one to draw to their decision, one may not realize that this is process and that it is done every day several times a day. According to the text the “definition of decision making is the process of choosing a course of action to deal with a problem or opportunity” (Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn. & Uhi-Bien, 2010). This is used among team or groups as well as individuals and the process includes five steps; this is also known as the rational decision model. Teamwork is important for any work environments in order to be successful. When a group works together to make a decision it is likely to not be successful experience every time, but lesson can be learned from a decision made.
The step of Group Decision-Making Process
The first step in the decision-making process would be to define the problem. During this stage information is gathered and guidelines are put into place as to identify specifically what the group needs to accomplish out of the problem or opportunity being resolved. It is important for the group to make sure that the problem is understood completely, and members of the group are informed the same and on the same level.
The second step is to analyze alternatives forms of action; during this stage the group must know what other alternatives may be available for the problem or opportunity and what the forecasted consequences for the benefits and costs. The group must be clear as to what they need to know and what they actually do know.
