Dating and Mating:
Secular View vs. Biblical View

How do you find your perfect match? How do you find your partner for life? And when you meet that someone, how do you know you've made the right choice? These are questions we all ask at some point in our life during the dating and mating process. There are many different views and answers to these questions, but in this paper I want to focus on the secular world views and the biblical views and how both views contradict each other.

This relationship births a completely different view when approaching others for courtship. When it comes to the bible God should be your main pursuit because anything else would be idolatry. Scriptures says to seek God and His righteousness and all these things will be added (Matthew 6:33). In your pursuit of righteousness you will learn to posses what the bible says is real love so that you may show real love to others. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). So when we posses that real love Jesus showed then we are able to pursue real love in a relationship in view things differently from the world. While the world sees marriage as a bad thing, God considers marriage as a good thing (Proverbs 18:22). So knowing that marriage is good we should approach dating and mating as an opportunity of future marriage consideration, and should not be sought out for fleshy pleasure. Jesus said that we should flee from fleshy lust including all sexual activity outside of marriage, and not to defile ourselves (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5). Intimate time in a relationship should be built with a person who shares these same principles in scriptures, because it can weaken our relationship with Christ and cause us to compromise biblical morals for the sake of our mate (1 Corinthians 6:14-15).
Comparison of the Views
Dating is essentially getting to know someone over an extended period of time to determine if a relationship is something worth pursuing (Courtney, 2010). Also Thomas Ludwig states that “men and woman choosing a mate do so with three factors in mind. These factors are...
