3 | How do Milgram's results—particularly the finding that the remoteness of the victim affected obedience—relate to some aspects of modern warfare?Milgram found several important factors that influenced obedience: (1) legitimacy and closeness of the authority figure, (2) remoteness of the victim, (3) assignment of responsibility, (4) modeling or imitating others. (Blass, 1991, 2000; Meeus & Raaijmakers, 1989; Snyder, 2003). Milgram's original setup could never be undertaken today. Many people are upset both by Milgram's findings and by the treatment of the participants in his research. dishonesty is a necessary part of some research, but the degree of deception and discomfort of participants in Milgram's research is now viewed as highly unethical findings are relevant for example in the justice systems when a person is arrested, usually the policemen use several methods to make the person in custody obey. Sometimes this involves hand cuffing and other physical measures to get the person to comply. The United States is more willing to attack another countries when we are all pleasant and safe in our own country ,it a lot easier to push a button sending a missile to the enemy's country when we don't have to feel or see firsthand the devastation it will cause. It would be much harder for us to bomb the same countty, if we were there and we saw the kids and lives that would be taken by the attack. |
