Critical Thinking Application
Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally. The purpose of the critical thinking application paper is to explain ways critical thinking is used in work-related situations. The paper will provide examples from personal experiences while applying critical thinking in work-related decisions. The paper will illustrate the importance and benefits of critical thinking in the decision-making processes. Critical thinking is necessary for business situations as well as personal situations.

As a patient registration clerk, I have different duties to follow on a day-to-day basis. Some of my day- to-day duties consist of checking in patients for appointment, collecting hospital and clinic co pays for visits, inputting and correcting insurance information and insurance verification for claims to be processed quickly but accurately, inputting patient’s demographics, and making sure I am not violating any HIPPA laws while assisting patients. For example, a patient needs to check in for an appointment and the appointment is at 3:00 o clock but the patient has arrived three hours earlier than his scheduled appointment and want to be seen at that moment. In this situation an outsider may say “I know the answer to that question,” but the answer is not that simple, the answer could be to just check the patient in and let him wait, but I have given the patient an option based on my decision making and critical thinking skills. In this situation, I contacted the nurse and explained the patient is now here in the lobby and would like to be seen now. Based on the nurse critical thinking skills and decision making processes the nurse can either say yes he can be seen earlier or no. In this case the answer was no, I now have to decide how to relay the message to the patient without seeming unconcerned.
