Critical Thinking Application
When one hears the words critical thinking, one may automatically become intimidated by past coworkers and colleagues. The thought of critical thinking recalls a company that had a number of self-proclaimed critical thinkers. They walked around with books in their hands titled “Crucial Conversations” and “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.” Their definitions of thinking became apparent when serving as an associate with this organization and defined critical thinking as the norm in their society. This resulted in higher self-esteem by becoming more aware of what it takes to think outside the box and work with others in an environment that resembles cohesion. Though this student may still doubt him or herself on occasion, has attained skills to achieve a promising position at another company. This individual is proud of the accomplishments and prepared to continue to learn to become a better thinker.
When associates are asked what their meaning of critical thinking is that they have many answers. “All graduate programs offer intellectual stimulation but the quality of the climate in graduate schools varies” (Halonen & Young, 2000.) Also McPeck (1981) suggested that the phrase "critical thinking" is paradoxically both "overworked and under-analyzed." Many agree somewhat with these quotes, but as a Consultant in a State-Wide Community Waiver Program; the majority does use frequent thinking that often can be critical. In Advisors home-based offices of working adults, we are the bottom of the totem pole but have promising opportunities as we learn to think critically every day by working with challenged clients and their families. With our participants there is considerable analyzing and thinking skills required to do many tasks of preparing budgets and complying with state regulations. We use critical thinking with the documents we prepare, planning activities, and research. Forming solid, work-related relationships with our customers and our coworkers, is also part of what we do in our modest world of consulting.
