The relationship between critical thinking and ethics
Critical thinking plays a giant role in ethics and is essential to the success of human activity. The quality of what we do in our daily lives depend on the effectiveness of our thought’s, morals or immorality. The similarities between these two terms are; that they both relate in judging and observing things. In critical thinking you are judging the different types of observations, while ethics are a set of principles that are respectable to individual’s morals and personal judgments.
Definition of critical thinking
According to "Criticalthinking.org" (2013), “Critical thinking is that mode of thinking — about any subject, content, or problem — in which the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully analyzing, assessing, and reconstructing it. 3. “Applying entails using what has been learned in new situations”.
4. “Analyzing involves thinking about a whole in terms of its various parts”.
5. “Synthesizing consists of putting parts together to form a whole”.
6. “Evaluating entails making comparisons and judgments”.
Blind spot and preferred ethical lens
The theory based on the (ELI) I exemplify Overconfidence in process. Although, I am not in full agreement of my ethical inventory assessment, it states I tend to consider a consistent process results in an impartial outcome for everyone, sometimes trusting in the process too much. Although everyone should have equal access, not everyone does. I am inclined to believe that ethical decisions are a natural by-product of the universal application of a just system. Ethically I trust in relationships using my rationality to determine what processes and systems should be put in place to declare equality and justice for everyone.
How ethics influence your personal decision making
Ethics can have a big influence on your decision-making. Behavior that is accepted as morally "right," rather than "wrong", plays a huge part in any major decision I’m required to make. I would be inclined to think through a problem cautiously and research the most affective options to resolve a situation. My ultimate goal is to make a fully informed decision that meets the needs of my friends, family, co-workers and even strangers without harming the under privileged.
Applying ethics to professional and societal responsibilities
Professional ethics are normally a set of standards that are used for making decisions in the office, through an employee handbook that will identify all of the does and don’ts of the workplace. By using professional ethics this will prevent employees or employers of taking advantage of one another, which can build trust and mutual respect. As human beings we have a responsibility to be honest, fair, generous, faithful, respectful and kind to strangers. Along with the personal obligations to do no harm upon are fellow man, not to falsely accuse others, not to lie, steal, cheat or commit adultery.
