Critical Thinking and Ethics
As I sit here thinking about critical thinking, I ask myself, what is critical thinking? My definition of critical thinking would be, to go into deep though about something that’s on your mind. I then though maybe you should look up the real definition of critical thinking. In doing that I came up with this. According to the Encarta Dictionary critical thinking is disciplined intellectual criticism that combines research, knowledge of historical context, and balanced judgment. Another source tells me it’s thinking about a subject, problem, or content. It’s self-directed, self-monitored and self- corrective thinking. Critical thinking assent standards of excellence and command of their use.
As I go farther into my research of critical thinking, I also find out there are different steps to critical thinking. One of the first steps is Knowledge. Knowledge is topic, ...view middle of the document...
In other words putting what you learn to use. Step four is Analysis. When you analysis something you break it apart and study the pieces. Step five in critical thinking is Synthesis. Synthesis is a combination of analyzed parts to form a new theory on something. The last step of critical thinking is Evaluation. Evaluation is to judge and to put in your own words.
A great thinker will define, list, and describe what it is their thinking about. He would then explain and summarize it by illustration. He will breakdown his points and modify or rearrange his topic to get to his final thoughts.
A critical thinker has good memory and knows a lot of facts. Being a critical thinker is a good trait to have to get you through life.
Critical thinking and Ethics go hand in hand. According to the Encarta Dictionary Ethics is the study of moral standards and how they affect conduct. In taking my Ethical Lens Inventory, my preferred lens is Reputation Lens. It explains that I listen to my intuition to determine what character traits and virtues will best serve my community. My Blind Spot summarize that I rely on the virtues of various roles and that makes me have unrealistic expectations. This is telling me sometimes I set my goals high and I think highly of what I want to get accomplished.
Personal ethics influences my decision making because I think what others will think of me if I do something against my morals. I try to live my life in a pleasing and honorable way. Thinking before I speak or do anything, not thinking and just doing can get you in a situation that can dishonor your name.
Ethics also can apply to professional and societal responsibilities. Professional ethics are the set of values that one should follow. They include kindness, compassion, integrity and responsibility. Social responsibility is making decisions that will enhances teamwork and improve overall production in an organization.
Critical thinking and Ethics will help me think before I take action in my everyday living. I have to think before I make major decision in my life and put forth my morals to have the best outcome possible.
