1.3.2- Technical design:

1.4 Basic Elements of Project Management:
In order to have a successful project there are four basic elements that needs to be managed, which are: Cost, Resources, Time and Scope. All those elements are interrelated and need to be managed together where the success in managing them will lead to the success of the project it self.

1.5 Project Planning Techniques:
Project planning techniques can be divided into two major methods, which are:
1.5.1- Grantt Chart/ Bar Chart:
This method was used for the first time during the industrial revolution in the late 1800’s where an industrial engineer named Henry Grantt developed that method to improve the factory efficiency.
Nowadays this method is used for scheduling the tasks that needs to be done and in tracking the progress of the project it self.
The technique used in the method is the use of bars to determine each task where the length of each bar shows how long dose the task needs to be done.

Example of the Grantt Chart

1.5.2- Networking Techniques:
This techniques is based on the network idea where the outlook of it looks like a big network of tasks and it’s divided to two methods, which are:
- Critical Path Method.
- Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT).

Example of the Critical Path Method Chart

Example of the PERT Chart
This report will be discussing about the Networking Techniques in project management which which are CPM and PERT.

2.0 NETWORK TECHNIQUES:
2.1- Introduction:
Network Techniques is the general name given to certain specific techniques, which can be used for the planning, management and control of projects.
This techniques were devoloped for two different reasons but they were devoloped in the same time during the late1950’s. where the CPM technique was devoloped in the year 1957 by DuPont it was created to manage shutting down a chemical plant for maintenance and then restart it again once the maintenance is done.
As for the PERT method it was devoloped in the year 1958 by Booz, Allen and Hamilton for the U.S. Navy's Polaris project where there were thousands of contractors in that project. This method was devoloped to reduce both time and cost required to finish up this project.
