This survey taught me a lot about my perception of the government’s role, and the importance government regulation has when it comes to the medical industry. I scored with the majority of the students when it came to describing the roles of biostatics serves in the discipline of public health. I found it to be of low/medium importance level. I do feel there is a need for biostatistics however; it is one of the concepts that does not play in my mind on a daily basis and it seems like most of the other students would agree. I again scored with the majority of the class on descriptive techniques commonly used to summarize public health data. I feel that I have not had much interaction with the public health data, which to me means they are doing a good job. Although I did not put a high perceived competence level in this area, I do feel out of most of the areas this topic hold more weight. The descriptive and inferential methodologies according to the type of study design for answering a particular research question, I also agree again with the majority of the class that it had low/medium level of perceived competence. I was surprised how many people found this to have the lowest level of perceived competence compared to the other topics and concerns. It made me realize the impact a lot of the medical companies might be unhelpful in our development and regulation of medical concepts.
The applied basic informatics techniques with vital statistics and public health records in the description of public health characteristics and in public health research and evaluation, I again agreed with the majority of the class that it had a low medium level of perceived competence.
