A short story tends to leave much interpretation to the reader, requiring analysis of the author, theme, setting, and possible morals embedded in the story.
The stories “Young Goodman Brown” by Nathanial Hawthorne and “The Destructors” by Graham Green are both popular short stories written by influential authors. “Young Goodman Brown” takes place during the seventeenth century in Salem Village, Massachusetts. The entire story takes place over a few hour time span with the exception of the conclusion that summarizes the future. “The Destructors” takes place in England in the mid-1950s, after WWII and follows a gang of young boys over the course of several days. This story happens during the day, as many of the characters are young boys that are required to be home at a certain time.

The history behind this house offers credibility to the story by offering an unstated explanation of the plot....
