Driving to Freedom

The American people and America itself run off freedom. Ever since this country was founded freedom has always played a key role in our society. In fact, most of the United States Constitution is made up of articles to protect our freedom. The birth of the automobile gave new meaning to the word freedom and to this day American citizens relate owning a vehicle to freedom. Automobile Companies have realized this and incorporated the idea of freedom in their advertisements to make their vehicle more appealing. The main text of the advertisement is " Before I have kids I want to:" this supports the idea that Honda is trying to portray the freedom owning a car offers because having kids typically restricts what activities you can do and the type of car you own. Another section of text on the advertisement relates back to this list of activities one wants to do before having kids by stating “The up-for-almost-anything Honda CR-V was built to help you check off every last item.” This statement portrays freedom as well by saying that their vehicle will allow you the freedom to drive and complete all the activities in the collage. One last text based hint on freedom in the Honda advertisement is the statement “Get going in the all new, 31-mpg Honda CR-V.” Automobile companies with higher than normal fuel efficiency will state this statistic about their vehicle to make consumers believe their can go further and have more freedom with their car then one with worst fuel efficiency.
The second advertisement is for the Toyota's flagship vehicle, the Toyota Corolla. Visually this advertisement is very similar to the Honda CR-V advertisement, both advertisements use a collage layout to illustrate freedom of order. The makers of the advertisements did this to perceive that their vehicles will not constrain you to rules and allow the consumer freedom to express themselves.
