Michael Jordan vs LeBron James
This is one of the most controversial topics in the history of NBA today. I will finally put to rest all of the doubt that Michael Jordan is, was, and will always be the best player ever to play in the NBA. I know I sound bias but everyone in the world is comparing LeBron James to Michael Jordan. There are many similar traits about the two players but there are also many differences. I will cover as many as possible in both areas about both players and once you read the facts you will finally understand why Jordan is the King not James.
Michael Jordan started his basketball career when he went to the University of North Carolina. While attending college he won a national championship and cemented that he was a great college player. Jordan was drafted into the League in 1984 and from there the rest is history. Michael Jordan was a Six-time NBA champion (1991-93, 1996-98); NBA MVP (1988, ...view middle of the document...
He has earned All-NBA First Team honors six times and All-NBA Second Team honors twice. He also is a four-time NBA All-Defensive First Team selection and named the NBA Rookie of the Year.
So now that we got the titles and awards out of the way we can get down to business. Jordan was a shooting guard while LeBron has played Power Forward and Small Forward, while both players have had great supporting cast to help them along the way Jordan always seemed like he ran his team unlike James when he moved to Miami. James has made great plays and is a leader on his team but he plays a big man spot and does not control the floor like a guard does he just plays a position. I will agree that James is a better defense player than Jordan but yet again, they played two different positions. I could go on and on about the two players and could compare their stats, awards, accolades until the cows come home but let us face it they are both the same and different in all aspects.
The subject of this paper is to compare how the two players are alike and the contrast between them. In my personal opinion, Michael Jordan played in an era where the talent of players was top notch. James while he is a good player plays in today’s era where there are only a handful of good players. So Do I think LeBron’s numbers are inflated with the weak competition in the league today? Of course I do. Jordan and James had different upbringing and different paths but they both have passion for the game. Jordan set the standard for all the players of today, and James is living up to the hype, while Off the court both Jordan and James have made smart financial decisions and endorsement deals.
When it all said and done Jordan’s stats are better than James but we have to remember that James is still playing. I will always say Jordan was the greatest but I think that with all the hype this subject will never go away. We will always be comparing the two and the question of who is better will never be answered. Jordan and James have a lot of similarity but they both have many differences.
