Compare And Contrast 2 Children's Books: One Toodler Ages 0 1 And One Child Book Age 2 3

938 words - 4 pages

Getting Ahead with ReadingGrowing up I remember when my parents would get my brother and I ready for bed and before the lights shut off it was story time. It was that special time for my brother and I to listen to our parents read to us about horses, far away islands and of talking plants. I think that it helped me progress in my vocabulary and also helped increase my imaginary skills. Comparing the two children's books, I felt they teach valuable lessons as well as help in developing new skills. The first book I read was Messy Bessey's Closet by Patricia Mckissack. I really enjoyed this book that was aimed toward infants aged zero to three years. The book is quite small in size compared to ...view middle of the document...

If I had to make a suggestion I don't think I would change a thing. I love the book the way it was.My second book I read was Dreams by Ezra Jack Keats. This book was targeted to ages five to seven. The appearance when compared to the other books is the same in height. In reference to the illustrations, they seemed almost painted on; it is a refreshing change to the way a book typically looks and adds an artistic view. Even with the words printed in the book, the pictures do a great job in illustrating the book. It could easily pass for one of those books where the children make up their own stories based on the drawings alone. One aspect of the book I didn't like so much was the storyline. Another thing that I didn't like was the key messages. It was a little difficult to understand what the book was trying to convey. The book seemed too vague and unclear in terms of the central message. The main theme that I thought that was in the book was the idea of going to sleep to dream but then again the book is too indistinguishable around a theme. I don't know if the author intended on doing that in order to stimulate the reader to...
