Effective communication must start with the basic elements of communication to insure that the ability to understand and to be understood. We have all tried to read the pamphlets at the medical office or that come with a prescriptions or over the counter medicine the print is so small and sometimes not very confusing, this is where communication needs to be looked at and needs to adjusted”. (Miller & Washington, 2012) When we receive information that is hard to understand we tend not to take that information serious or to follow the directions that are written which will cause a delay in treatment or getting better, this is an area that not only the medical filed will need to improve on , but the companies who produce the medication and treatments. Medical media is a growing communication that is developing more and more and it needs to be a very effective communication with the ability to communicate to the basic needs of the patient.
A provider can help a reluctant patient to communicate by being attentive to the patient and taking the time to not only give advice but to listen to the patient. Make sure that the patient feels comfortable when speaking to the provider. Bring the patient in on the communication by understand their cultural and religious beliefs.
Cultural difference have become a communication issue but has we have learned from the issues, we have adapted to the needs of many different cultural, religion and gender needs.
