CMGT445: Application Implementation

Prof: Todd Doren

Overview
Baderman Island Resort is a popular resort destination for tourist that consists of three hotels, four restaurants, a convention center, two gift shops, a pro shop and a spa. These facilities provide guests something that Boardman Management likes to call "a slice of paradise." They are located on the Baderman Island which is actually in the Kelsey River, which is used as a method of transportation for guests. It is Baderman's goal to provide guests with a place for leisure, comfort and activity.
Purpose
To continue providing the upmost service, ...view middle of the document...

If these minimum requirements are overlooked or ignored, the OS, WPS, and other programs have an increased possibility to crash due to lack of memory, slow processor speed, or decrease in storage space; the same can be said for Baderman and their selection of which OS and WPS suite they choose to use. The minimum system requirements for Baderman’s current OS and WPS’s, as well as possible upgrade choices are listed in Appendices B and C respectively.
Standard Format and Conversions
Because Baderman uses outdated OS’s and WPS’s, there is no standard format because each WPS is different. The new upgrade must therefore have the capability to convert old document files to a newer format; Microsoft Office 2010 for example. Use of a standard format throughout Baderman’s WPS will enable users to have access to the same documents with no changes occurring from one system to the next. This means an increase in speed for the creation and submission of documentation, decrease in time spent fixing conversion errors, and a raise in employee productivity.

Template Standardization
Templates are an important aspect of WPS’s. They allow a user or company to avoid the preliminary setup and formation time needed to produce uniform documents. For Baderman, templates would mean the creation of their own templates in which editing, saving, and managing could be performed. These templates would permit standardization across each entity and allow the sharing of the specific template with all entities.
Spreadsheet Collaboration
The sharing of spreadsheets between users allows data to be more easily added with a few clicks of the mouse. Additionally, spreadsheet collaboration also helps to avoid editing conflicts from user to user. Whenever the system is offline, users can still share their spreadsheets with each other through spreadsheet collaboration.
Recommendations
Smith Systems has been decided that a rotational upgrade would be suitable for Baderman. This upgrade would benefit the resort's budget, while at the same time assist employees in learning the new configuration of Microsoft Windows 7 with Microsoft Office 2010. This upgrade will benefit Baderman by:
• Increasing efficiency through faster processing speeds
• Increasing productivity through better support for various features and capabilities
• Higher long-term ROI through increased systems life-time
• Decreasing in-service needs and repairs
• Reducing costs for software licenses
• Increasing efficiency through intuitive user-interfaces and higher-level automation
• Increasing productivity through new and improved features and capabilities
• Extending long-term support (manufacturer patches and upgrades)
• Minimal need for training or transition
• Large amount of support, training, and documentation available
The only drawback in this upgrade is that Baderman would have to wait another year to complete as only the older computer systems would be upgraded first....
