Club IT, Part One
Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada have followed their dream and created a downtown hotspot called Club IT. However, while continuing to develop their business, they have a found a few flaws in the IT department for their club. They have mutually decided to hire an intern to help develop this area to enhance and build upon their successful business. Club IT promotes a fun and energy filled environment, filled with a variety of live music, food, and drink. Ruben and Lisa have a created an atmosphere in hopes to attract a varied crowd and become an integral part of the community. Some of the factors that contribute to leading and controlling functional performance are training, leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal relationships (Van Ewyk, 2003). It is important in this part of the cycle to have a manager or lead position that is knowledgeable about the business. The manager should be able to motivate and guide the employees of Club IT into achieving Club IT’s ultimate goals. The controlling role includes keeping an eye on Club IT’s performance to make sure the goals are being met. It is vital that the managers pay attention to costs versus operations (Rothbauer-Wanish, 2009).
In the second part of the OE cycle, Ruben and Lisa must continue to improve their business through learning and innovation. Outside the personal skills needed for operational effectiveness are the processes. These are the standard methods that must be measured and improved continually with knowledge over time (Van Ewyk, 2003). Ruben and Lisa can measure and improve these processes by using such programs as total quality management, Six-sigma, and continuous process improvement (Rothbauer-Wanish, 2009). However, these functions of the OE cycle are not enough, as Club IT must consistently and methodically pursue opportunities to control personal and process capabilities. The desired result is unremitting development in functional performance. Operational effectiveness incorporates the ability to constantly improve, control, and systematize. Standard and established methods of business and systems analysis should be utilized to assist computer systems development (Van Ewyk, 2003).
