Remote Access and On-Demand Availability
AWS offers Amazon S3 for storage of Ericsson’s Internet. It provides a simple web interface that can store and retrieve data (Amazon, 2013). Data can be retrieved any time and from anywhere on the web. Access is provided to a global network of web sites and storage can be provided to any regions provided by AWS.
AWS Management Console allows access and management of AWS through a web- based user interface. Amazon also offers a mobile application to quickly view resources on-the-go (Amazon, 2013).
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2)
Amazon EC2 provides compute capacity in a cloud. Businesses can obtain and configure capacity with minimal friction. Businesses have complete control of computing resources in Amazon’s computing environment and only pay for the capacity they use. It also allows businesses to increase and decrease capacity within just minutes (Amazon, 2013). Amazon EC2 can also work in conjunction with other Amazon Web Services. Amazon Simple Storage Services (Amazon S3)
Amazon S3 is storage for the Internet and is designed to provide web services used to store and retrieve data. Businesses will use the same scalable, reliable, secure, fast, and inexpensive infrastructure that Amazon uses for its global network of web sites (Amazon, 2013). Storage is maintained in a bucket and can be stored in one of several regions provided by Amazon. Authentication measures ensure that data is kept secure from unauthorized access and data encryption is also available. Control is flexible and access can be provided by four different control mechanisms. Amazon S3 can synchronize data across multiple facilities and on multiple devices (Amazon, 2013). Data Lifecycle Management enables management of data from its creation to storage and to elimination when it is no longer needed. Businesses can create buckets, upload data, and set access controls using AWS Management Console. Portable devices can be used to transport large amounts of data using AWS Import/Export and AWS Direct Connect allows the transfer of large amounts of data to Amazon S3 (Amazon, 2013).
