Immigration seems to be making more headlines in recent years. Politicians stress its importance that it has on our nation. Governments all over the world have promoted the teaching to immigrate students and introduced citizenship test for those who wish to become naturalized. As the world progresses in terms of nations’ trade and investment, economies, borders are opened more frequently and easier for the flow of products. Republicans have also attempted for and amendments to deny citizenship to children that are born to illegal immigrants. Immigrants have caused problems in both political parties. Both political parties the Republican and Democratic have gone against immigration.
This is why as time has gone by the qualities needed to be a citizen have dramatically changed. The process can be extremely long and is not always sure you will pass everything that is required. But the large number of immigration is affecting the current citizens of the United States. Taxpayers are forced to pay for the welfare and schooling for many of these immigrants, some who are illegal aliens. In many occasions immigrants are exposed to cheap labor. They will most likely be given the jobs that a citizen of the country does not want or cannot do, because they are not citizens, they will work for less money and longer hours. Immigrants and refugees sometimes appear to be getting the same benefits or more benefits than local poor people. Not every immigrant is illegal; many may die trying to flee certain circumstances, which may increase the whole idea of illegal immigration going out of control. The government has tried somewhat to restrict immigration but the laws are still too lenient “In the spring of 2006, millions of immigrants and supporters organized in cities and small towns across the United States to defend their rights following the passage of HR4437, a bill designed to punish unauthorized immigrants.”(Source A) This quote shows that immigrants not always follow the law. Even though that they are doing this to defend their rights, they are disturbing the nation. School walk outs have also taken part in this issue. The problems that these organized events cause are that they disrupt the education program and disrupt the community. Immigration creates problems that people are not aware of. There are people that keep believing and accusing immigrants of stealing jobs from citizens, and strain public services. Some other things that immigrants are accused of are to threaten our culture.
