Churchill’s finest hour was a speech made by the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill, on June 18th 1940. In this speech to the House of Commons, Prime Minister Winston Churchill discussed the disastrous turn of events in Europe with the realization that Britain now stands alone against the seemingly unstoppable German military.
The Nazi’s over powered all of Europe during world war two and were taking over every country in their way, and it was up to Britain to finally stop Hitler and his army. This speech made by Churchill played a huge part in the war against Hitler. Even though there was no action involved, Churchill inspired Britain and the rest of Europe to find that inner strength to fight for what you believe in and not be transformed into monsters. This speech was heard by people all over the world to let the fallen countries know that ...view middle of the document...
Churchill said to the House of Commons, “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat”, all of these would be required if Britain wanted to win the war. Churchill knew he was going to lose many men, but they will have died fighting for their countries and their beliefs. This quote by Churchill showed the House of Commons that it was going to be very painful for Britain to fight but in the end, the world will be grateful of them and all that they have accomplished. Churchill had had one goal in mind when addressing the people. Victory, He knew that at all costs victory is the most important thing, to show that they wouldn’t let the terror continue, and even though it was going to be a hard and long battle to save Europe, that in the end if there is not victory, there will be no survival. If Britain would have failed in holding off the Germans, that would have most likely been the final stand against the Nazi’s and Hitler would have ruled all of Europe. Churchill said that the British Empire would fight for all that they have stood for, and addressed the rest of Europe as there protector and saviour, and they all had to unite or this world would come to a disturbing era of terror and hatred.
In the end, the Nazi’s were defeated by the British empire, the only battle the Germans lost, which came out to be one of the last stands for Hitler. Churchill’s finest hour speech was a big part in the allies turning around and standing up to Hitler, and Churchill is now recognized as one of the great men who won the war against Germany, and it helped Europe recognize that if they come together and they are all united, that they can overpower their way to freedom. Churchill’s policy was to wage war by air land and sea, trying to hit the Germans from every angle possible to wear them down and try to push them back. The speech that united Europe and won them the war came from Churchill, a man who truly believed that if all parties could fight together, and help each other that they could win this war, and this speech inspired a lot of people to do so.
