MGMT 591: Leadership and Organizational Behavior
Overview of Organization
The organization that will be the topic of discussion in my final project paper is LAN Infotech. LAN Infotech is a small IT consulting company that specializes in IT projects and services. The company was first created when the owner first sold his shares from a company he helped form in New York called LAN Associates. Doing so, he was able to acquire all the small businesses the company was managing down in South Florida. He created LAN Infotech ...view middle of the document...
So when we ran into issues no engineer had experience in, we would outsource to another company. They would also do the same for them and use us for help. This lead to rapid growth and LAN Infotech was able to open another office closer to the Miami area to further and quickly resolve and assist the Miami based clients.
Preliminary Problem Statement
Like any business ranging from small to large, it can suffer from employee motivation and in worst case attrition. Although LAN Infotech has been able to grow and gain clients, in its inception in 2008 to 2013, there has been a total of 48 employees that have either been fired, never returned to work, or otherwise gave their two weeks and found new employment. There can be a number of reasons, why employees have left or gotten fired, but the most obvious is the lack of motivation and incentives that is almost nonexistent in the work place. In this paper, I will provide details on situations that happened, and how it could have been different. I will, in theory apply motivation concepts in ways that can be introduced in sections starting from management down to the engineers. I believe that if LAN Infotech, or any company wishes to continue in its success path, the wellbeing and motivation factors for employees must be addressed. After the growth, it became a little difficult for the IT Director to manage. When that started happening, the direction of the company was a little to the left and the engineers were left with almost no direction. The IT director was instructed to fire employees because we lost a couple clients due to negligence. The branch in Miami was closed as well. After a while the IT Director left the company and that’s when things started to go downhill for good. There’s a couple of things that should have been realized and worked upon before getting this far.
• Listen to the employees
• Provide training and assistance
• Empower them to learn and perform functions more experienced employees do
