Today, popularity is just as equivalent to having a lot of followers on Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr. It almost becomes like a race to see who can have more followers than the next guy but clearly, popularity is not about a lot of friends anymore; it revolves around being known for absolutely nothing. When you walk into school every day, that one person who you tell everything too and is your best friend might be going through something that you have no idea about. What about that guy who just joined the football team? Or the girl you saw in the bathroom this morning? In this life, they may seem alright and come to school acting like everything is ok but what about their online world? Bullies thrive on the internet attacking people from behind a computer screen with the most derogatory comments one would never say to another face. Every day, teenagers are bullied online weather it’s through a tweet, a photo posted or even directly in a chat group. This problem is constantly ignored and not talked about enough which leads to serous effects starting with not wanting to go out, wanting to be secluded and left alone, stealing medication from the cabinet or even thoughts of suicide. This can be thought of as a ripple effect. These effects cause other effects which impact parents, friends and others around them, but most times, this is never thought of and drifts out of the mind.
