Case Study Analysis

Most of us have experienced problems with timing and scheduling at one time or another. When we think we have more than enough time we tend to procrastinate and before we know it things catch up with us which causes unneeded frustration that could have been prevented. The case of Carl Robins in this study is no different from any other cases where people run out of time. Through analysis we will see how some of Carl's frustration could have been prevented and what could have made this case run smoother. I was able to find the problems by just asking a few simple questions.For starters why did Carl think it was necessary to take on so many new recruits on his first recruitment effort? It would have been better to start off with a smaller number of recruits like 5 or 8 for his first venture. This would have allowed Carl more time to make sure everything was on order and given him some practice. Why didn't Carl set a goal to have all new trainee files completed before Memorial weekend? This would have given him more than enough time to get everything processed and approved on time.Communication throughout the process with the recruits could have also assured that everything was taken care of in a timely manner. Carl should have checked his files periodically and if he noticed any discrepancies, he could have called right then and there to schedule some time to take care of any paper work. There was a communication break down between Carl and his recruits and with his scheduled orientation room. I believe that most of his frustration could have been prevented by simply communicating which let's everyone know what is needed, progress, and a sense of caring.By the time Carl noticed everything that had gone wrong or everything that was incomplete he had little time to react. Carl still has 15 days to get everything completed and instead of getting frustrated and panicking, Carl should get himself together and start the process of getting all the applications completed. This is Carl's first attempt and he does not want it to be a disaster so he should start calling each recruit one by one and set completed files aside one by one. It is not easy to cram everything with such a short period of time left but with the right attitude and if you can stay focused everything should be ok. If Carl has time during this process he should also speak with Joe and compromise about the training room mix up. Carl only needs the room for one day, but if Joe is unable to fulfill Carl's request then Carl needs to start thinking of alternatives. I know it's not always necessary to have one but it's good to always have a back up plan.In the end there are many different things Carl could have or should have done to avoid this disaster but what's done is done and the only way to get around it is to learn from it. Scheduling might seem easy but as we can see with Carl's case, it can sneak up on you and before you know it you have fallen behind. If Carl would have kept a timeline he would have noticed his progress and been able to take care of pending applications. With time Carl will learn how to perfect his tactics and strategies; hopefully he has learned form this Case Study.
