Career In Electronics Engineering Essay

2165 words - 9 pages

Mixture – is a combination of two substances in such a way that no chemical reaction occurs between the components and you can separate them again. A mixture is a material system made up of two or more different substances which are mixed but are not combined chemically. The substances in a mixture can be separated using physical methods such as filtration, freezing, and distillation.

Examples of Mixtures
sand and water
salt and water
sugar and salt
Elements are chemically the simplest substances and hence cannot be broken down using chemical methods. Elements can only be changed into ...view middle of the document...

However, there are exceptions, which include compounds such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc. Inorganic compounds can be classified into ionic compounds, molecular compounds, and aqueous acids.
Homogeneous as a term in physical chemistry and material science refers to substances and mixtures which are in a single phase. This is in contrast to a substance that is heterogeneous. The definition of homogeneous strongly depends on the context used. A solution is a special type of homogeneous mixture. In a homogeneous mixture, the different parts cannot be seen.
1. Mixture of alcohol & water
2. A glass of orange juice
3.salty water (where the salt is completely dissolved)
4.brewed tea or coffee
5.soapy water
6.a dilute solution of hydrochloric acid
7.hard alcohol
A heterogeneous mixture is made of different substances that remain physically separate. Heterogeneous mixtures always have more than one phase (regions with uniform composition and properties).
A mixture of sand and sugar is a heterogeneous mixture. The grains can be distinguished from each other with a magnifying glass. There are two solid phases: the sand grains, and the sugar grains. The mixture can be separated by washing the sugar out with water (a physical change).
A glass of iced tea is a heterogeneous mixture. The ice cubes have different composition and properties than the tea. You can say that the ice cubes are a solid phase, and the tea is a liquid phase.
Blood is a heterogeneous mixture because the blood cells are physically separate from the blood plasma. The cells have different properties than the plasma. The cells can be separated from the plasma by centrifuging, which is a physical change.
Beach sand is an example of heterogeneous mixture as the varied coloured particles in it can be viewed and separated.
Vinegar and oil salad dressing is an example of heterogeneous mixtures as two solid and liquid layers are present in it and the distinction is quite obvious.
Air with clouds, as is found over cities, is an example of heterogeneous mixtures as it constitutes dust, smoke, microorganisms, water, water vapour, fuel exhausts, etc.
Smoke is an example of heterogeneous mixture as it is the mixture of substances in more than one phase. It is the mixture of solid, liquid and gaseous components.
The other examples of heterogeneous mixtures are sandwich, salads, sand in water, soil, rocks, atmosphere, carbonated soft drinks, chicken soup, red wine vinegar, vinegar in oil, concrete, wood, chocolate chip cookies, muddy water, orange juice with pulp, lentil soup, sugar and cornstarch, mixture of different types of cereals, paving cement, etc.

A saturated solution is a solution in which the maximum amount of solute has been dissolved. In other words, it is the maximum concentration of a solution....
