When someone has work or school from the moment they wake until the moment they fall asleep, it is hard to find time to do the things in life that they enjoy. Trying to juggle school, work, homework, and the daily chores that consist of my house is beyond a tedious workload. Before chaos stepped into my life, I would take trips a couple hours away to take my four dogs to the dog park so they could socialize and get some of their energy out of their systems. My yard is not the best thing in the world or the largest, so that made it possible to help them have fun. Even a simple trip to the theatre or the nail salon seems to be a distant reality seeing as my days are planned for every day of the week. I can barely make the time to make dinner every night due to my schedule being overcrowded. When I awake every morning, I look at my phone to just to make myself remember the day of the week and ...view middle of the document...
Between star gazing, horseback riding, boating, fishing, or running around a park with my dogs would be an ideal way to spend any extra time I can acquire. I would even be able to spend more time with my aging grandmother, who taught me so much while growing up. It is all a bit extreme to think I will have time to do anything extra until summer rolls around again.
Many do not consider what they say to have any significant meaning whatsoever. In “The Insufficiency of Honesty” by Stephen L. Carter, it explains the ways that many individuals infer the difference of the words integrity and honesty. The short story is compiled of segments from a husband who committed adultery and confesses to his loving wife on his deathbed, to a man having sexual relations with a woman claiming that if she were to get pregnant if would only be of her concern. There are certain times when brutal honesty should not be spoken at all, as in someone is telling a friend or companion something that might upset them in a certain way. When it comes to integrity, a person will need much more than the logical components of it. It goes hand in hand with honesty. Though everyone will have their own definitions of the words and how they are interpreted in the situations they are presented in.
When reading this short story, it will make one think of how they represent their own integrity and honesty in their own lives. Someone will double check when they are about to blurt out a secret that might make themselves feel better, but put the burden of their wrong doing on someone else’s shoulders. Though it will in some way benefit one or the other, it still poses a risk of intentionally hurting someone or making a person wonder if what they were participating in was in fact morally right or wrong. To think whether or not a person can break out of their own thinking process to determine the integrity of others around them is usually beyond that person’s imagination. Those who can reflect on their own thoughts and moral judgments, will probably help those around them attribute to the other’s own judgments and give them the advantage to break out of their own boxes.
