BHP Billiton has a strong culture about profit first at the beginning; they used to focus on how to make profit fast without think any consequences. Now company change to focus on the long-term develops for company. We all know the resource is limited; if BHP continuous mining down without consider consequences to the world environment, sooner or later, it will brings big environmental disaster concerns, it is against the environmental sustainability of BHP Billiton’s long-term development. Therefore: since 1999, BHP's CEO, Paul Anderson admitted that the excessive mining was "not compatible with our environmental values." (Hettler, 2001). The whole company’s culture is changing from profit first to environment first, this is a long process but now the company culture has been thoroughly changed; for example, before each mining plan, company will come out with a sustainability report (sample report see appendix). BHP Billiton issued a statement about: Environmental and social performance is critical to our success, we are transparent about our sustainability commitments, standards and performance ().
Organisation’s structure includes work design, HR practices and management and IT systems to help direct staff behaviours in a strategic direction. When company's goal been change, the organization structure has to change to match with the company's new goal.
