In the era of the 21st century, when globalization has expanded drastically and rooted its success across the globe, the task of the managers in the company is getting challenging and competitive day by day. Firms have grown rapidly and the job of the fund manager has also increased to take advantageous decisions for their corporations. As a mutual fund manager, this paper will discuss the SWOT analysis of Walt Disney Company. SWOT analysis is a key component of a business analysis. The company is best known for the products of its film studio, The Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, and today, one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operated the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, A&E Networks and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 14 theme parks around the world. It also has a successful music division. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. In order to determine if the Walt Disney Company is a suitable object of investment, a SWOT analysis should be carried out.
SWOT Analysis
SWOT analysis is a strategic planning method used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a project or in a business venture. Strengths are characteristics of the business, or project team that give it an advantage over others. Weaknesses are characteristics that place the team at a disadvantage relative to others. Opportunities are external chances to improve performance in the environment. Threats are external elements in the environment that could cause trouble for the business or project. The usefulness of SWOT analysis is not limited to profit-seeking organizations. SWOT analysis may be used in any decision-making situation when a desired end-state objective has been defined. Examples include: non-profit organizations, governmental units, and individuals. SWOT analysis may also be used in pre-crisis planning and preventive crisis management.
SWOT analysis can be a useful tool in evaluating and monitoring equity investments. On balance, SWOT analysis is best used by investors as a way of crystallizing and quantifying the thought process that goes into an investment decision. The entire process can, and should, make an investor think more deeply about the weaknesses of and threats to a company, while also helping to tease out what is really important and distinctive about one company versus its rivals.
SWOT analysis also works best when it is done consistently. By using this analysis on a regular basis and keeping track of the information, SWOT analysis can allow for better comparisons across industry participants and more frequent use can also help limit some of the dangers of bias and selective analysis. A SWOT analysis will not tell an investor what price is fair for a stock, or if a stock is presently undervalued. What SWOT analysis does do, however, is force discipline and systematic thinking into the investment evaluation process. A careful and thoughtful analysis should bring into focus the balance of a company’s advantages and vulnerabilities, and also give the investor a benchmark to evaluate the company in future years.
