BIRTH OF A NATION
Birth of a Nation is a movie released in 1915 and based on Thomas Dixon’s novel The clansman.
It is a silent black and white movie and it runs more than 3hours.
It was directed by David Wake Griffith, who did other films which were far less successful than Birth of a Nation.
For this film, more than 10 000 people were casted, and it took around three years to make it.
It is considered one of the most significant film in American history ;even considered as the first real film produced as it was seen by millions more people than had ever seen other movie.

His death signals the start of the Reconstruction, and Congressman Stoneman is now a power in the land. As the story continues, Southern whites are degraded, abused and forced to acknowledge blacks as equals. The freedmen are described as violent,lazy, immoral terrorizing the poor southern white population
as for example here on this picture we can see Flora Cameron who is chased by a former slave commits suicide by jumping off a cliff. The rise of the KKK is at the core of the movie ; the KKK is glorified, depicted as saviors of the white southern population.
At the end of the movie the KKK restores the White supremacy to the South and Ben and Elsie, and Phil and margaret are happily reunited.
