Bamboo is the best practical atmospheric carbon sequestering biomass and the fastest and less expensive way to off-set carbon dioxide emission and water pollution. The best clones of bamboo – BEEMA, under ideal condition can sequester 500 kgs. of carbon dioxide every year by a single tree which in other words over 80 tonnes of carbon dioxide per acre/year. The carbon content in the Beema bamboo varies between 46 to 50% in its biomass depending on the parts of the bamboo. The superiority of Beema bamboo in sequestering the carbon dioxide is due to the fact that it has the ability to grow 1 ½ feet a day and has very thick wall. While sequestering the carbon dioxide, huge quantity of Oxygen is being released in the atmosphere as byproduct which makes the place oxygen rich and carbon neutral.
Bamboo has several other environmental benefits. If it is used to produce energy, it will reduce the risk of global warming by replacing fossil fuels (coal, natural gas and oil).
