Religion Assignment
Jesus revealed the Kingdom of God and the responsibilities we are expected to adhere to as we live our lives as God’s children (Moloney, 1986). To a great extent, Jesus influenced the way we include women in our everyday life and how women were treated in 1st century Palestine, through his words and actions, and as a result revealed the Kingdom of God, and God’s commandment to love and respect your neighbour, which is a great example of how to accept different beliefs and cultures in today’s society. The life in First Century Palestine was completely different to life today (Armstrong , 1998). People were judged depending on their race, religion and gender. Jesus came ...view middle of the document...

By altering the way the people of 1st century Palestine treated women he successfully demonstrated the Kingdom of God, by giving women the same rights and privileges as men. ‘When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her “Woman you are set free from your infirmity” then he put his hands on her and immediately she straightened up and praised God” (Luke 13: 12-14). The biblical reference illustrates that Jesus cared for women and treated them equally to men, happy to heal their physical ailments just as he did to men. Jesus in the phrase also called the woman over and forgave her for all her sins. It is obvious through the selected biblical scriptures and Jesus words and actions; Jesus has demonstrated the Kingdom of God, and the Gospel of the Kingdom, and the relevance of both today.
It is evident through the biblical scriptures provided and Jesus’ teachings of equality that he has changed the way people treat women in today’s society. The way people were treated in the time before Jesus is completely different to how women were treated in 1st century Palestine and in society today. ‘Jesus asked the Samaritan women “Will you get me a drink?” the Samaritan women said “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan women. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans)’ (John 4:8 9-11). Jesus did not care that he was not meant to be speaking to the Samaritan women, instead he continued to treat the women the same way he would act towards any other man, Samaritan or Jew (FutureChurch, 2012). This is an example of Jesus accepting all people and loving them unconditionally. This biblical reference gives clear evidence that Jesus taught the people of First century Palestine that all people no matter what religion, race, culture or sex should be treated equally and respectfully. As a result of Jesus teaching about equality and acceptance people in today’s society...
