Final Draft of Argumentative Essay


Poverty is one of the most significant and serious issues in the world. Today, millions of people are dealing with the cruel life conditions and trying to reach proper health care, nutrition, and shelter to survive. While the awareness of poverty is increasing, the majority of societies still display less attention to the causes and outcomes of poverty. It has been argued that people are poor because of their own personal shortcomings. However, rather than blaming the poor people, we should focus on the real causes of poverty, such as, effects of the economic system, economic disadvantages caused by geographical factors, and the limitations of possible ...view middle of the document...

Although there is a strong tendency of blaming the governments for their poor policies as well as people, this belief isn’t comprehensive to explain the causes of poverty. Despite the fact that adequate governmental policies are necessary to fight against poverty, it cannot be seen as the only determinant for being poor (Sachs, 2005). The economic disadvantages of countries caused by geographical factors and technological deficiencies create poverty and poor life conditions in many places. For instance, in some mountainous regions, transportation or mobile technology is one of the biggest problems. Also, climate leads to drought and poor agriculture as well. Therefore, with the investment of wealthy countries, roads and network lines can be built to prevent isolation of people and irrigation can be managed for drought and productive agriculture. Aside from investments, donation would be one of the methods to improve life standards of individuals in other countries because improving the overall economic growth is important, but distributing income equally can actually avert poverty and reduce the disadvantaged outcomes of geographical features.
In addition to the deficiencies of economic system and geographical features, poverty is caused by the drawbacks of proposed solutions. Some people argue that microcredit is one of the solutions to decrease poverty and increase the income of poor people. Although microcredit has some positive effects such as creating small loans to poor people for education, health services, and self-employment, high interest rates keep people in the same position (Karnani, 2007).
