Abstract
In this paper, it is proposed that Saint John’s University in Queens, New York, be provided with a holistic educational experience through a program entitled “Applied Education.” The education component that is proposed is grounded in two main concepts: education (in the classroom) and experience (outside the classroom) as a requirement for graduation. Presented here is evidence illustrating that students are not thoroughly prepared for the job market. Additionally, this paper discusses career readiness and potential postgraduate success. Other universities such as Clark University, University of Alabama at Birmingham, The University of Florida and Old Dominion University has adapted the models and theories of Academic Internships to fit their programs needs, to abundantly generate holistic, job market readiness for their students, thus as a result, these universities are rated as the best college careers services in the country (AACU).
The proposal discusses the implementation of “Applied Education” its impact and result of a program of its caliber. The redesign of this university’s tactical education could result in the groundbreaking, elite university generating distinctive holistic students thoroughly prepared for the job market.
