It is still suggested to place the point of the essay in the beginning, and then use spatial order to arrange the ideas according to the appearance. The example of Red Rocks could be done from standing at the top of the audience area, then describing the giant natural red bluffs to the right and left with the actual stage down at the bottom backed by another natural rock formation. This is another type of essay that sensory details should be heavily used to immerse the reader into the world.

The thesis should reflect the writer’s overall impression of the topic.
Classification To break broad subjects down into smaller more specific parts. An example would be a metallurgist writing an essay on different steel alloys such as regular carbon, stainless, or air hardened a2. The essay should open with a statement on the broader topic of the overall category and then the thesis statement explains how it is broken down into subgroups and why. The body paragraphs should each be dedicated to one of the subgroups. Then finish with the conclusion paragraph.

One great tip is to make sure to pick a topic you actually have good personal knowledge on. My metallurgy example works for me because I happen to be a CNC machinist and personally dealt with various types of steel.

It is advised to be able to break down a topic into at least three different subgroups to avoid overly simple classification.
Process
analysis This essay is used to explain how to do something or how it works. An example would be my essay, last week, on how to write an essay. This type of essay is going to follow chronological order. As in my essay it will start with an introduction paragraph on the topic. Then each body paragraph will describe a step. And finally finish with a conclusion.

Make sure to have someone else read your essay to have them confirm it makes sense and is chronologically easy to follow.

This is a perfect type of essay to be using time transition phrases such as first, second, and third to help clearly show each step.
Definition The purpose of this essay is to define something such as a leader, rich, helpful. Open the essay with a general discussion of the term and then state the thesis of the essay as the definition of the term. The body of the essay should be paragraphs explaining the reasons behind your definition of the term. Finish with a conclusion that pulls all the evidence together to reaffirm and support the thesis.

Context affects is important to deciding how to define the term. In the case of the term rich it can be defined in the contexts of financial, health, or love.

Try to pick a term you have a personal stake in to...
