At some point in everyone’s life they are faced with the decision of choosing where they want to live. This can be a very difficult decision to make. Depending on the lifestyle you have or are wanting, there are many options. The first thing that you need to decide is what type of housing suits your needs and preferences. How about outdoor space? There are apartments that include small outdoor spaces. They have balconies that you can treat as your own. They even have apartments that provide yard space. The yard usually is small and is also shared by everyone in the building. With these apartments the landlord is responsible for all the maintenance involved in taking care of the yard. Houses however, have larger yards for you to do what you want with. Nobody can tell you what you can or cannot do in your own yard.
There is a major difference in cost between the two. For an apartment you have to pay monthly rent. Many apartments include some of the utilities in the rent, such as water and garbage. This leaves you with only paying the electric bill and if you choose to have cable or a telephone that would be up to you to pay. Since apartments are so much smaller the bills are also a lot less. With a house you are responsible for paying the mortgage and all of the utilities. On top of the monthly bills, most home owners have to pay property taxes. It is all around more expensive to live in a house.
Along with the monthly bills there is always some maintenance involved wherever you live. If you rent an apartment the maintenance is taken care of by the landlord. This can be a downfall, in an apartment you are required to have the landlord approve everything you want to change. You cannot even paint your walls without getting it approved first. In a house the maintenance is completely up to you. You have the freedom to change anything you want to. Even if you want to take out a wall or paint every room different colors, it is your choice.
