7 million square kilometers. It is a post-soviet country which became independent only in 1991. Kazakhstan has a significant proved oil reserves with a world total share approximately about 2%. (BP, 2012) It ranks #11 at the world by this indicator and ranks #19 by oil production. (CIA, 2012) According to the Kazakhstan’s most powerful oil and gas company report (KazMunaiGas), country has the largest recoverable crude oil reserves in the Caspian region.
History of industry
The high probability of finding oil first was marked by Russian militaries, travelers and scientists in the first half of XVII century. In the far 1899 at the field called Karachungul the first gas-oil fountain started to work. An exploitation of oil and gas resources of Kazakhstan started. It was also the start of history of national industry. However the most brilliant pages in the chronicles of industry are written during the last decade. (IPR, 2012)
In 2001 the government of already independent Kazakhstan fell into conditions which required a progressive development of economy. An oil and gas industry has suffered of lack of experience in this area particularly specialists and experts. At that time, government started to attract FDI in order to start exploration and production of oil and gas.
Today oil and gas industry takes almost 60% of exportation of a country. (CIA, 2012) A development of Kazakhstan’s key oilfields will get a country one of the world’s top 5 oil producers. It is expected to increase a production minimum twice by 2019. (EIA, 2012)

To perform a good research about development of oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan the first thing to do is to survey all geographical factors, how factor impacts on the issue;
Secondly there are financial factors which also affect to the development of the industry, so there is need to explore them;
The next step contains an investigation of government policies and the effect of them;
Further, there is analysis of the influence of R&D factors to the industry;
And finally to understand market prospects for the oil and gas industry.
As cited above, Kazakhstan is the largest landlocked country in the world with significant boundaries on the Caspian Sea. An oil and gas reserves were estimated 30 billion barrels by (BP, 2012)
