Founded and concived in 1987 by Dave and Kathy Voss who had a heart's desire to reach the youth of Kern County with a life-changing message. Dave and Kathy saw the powerful attraction that music presented to each generation and believed that a music ministry would be an effective way to reach at-risk youth. As a result, Jesus Shack began as a grass roots concert Production Company exclusively staffed by dedicated volunteers.

The population that is being served is a needy population such as the lower parts of Bakersfield the less fortunate. Mostly poor and the homeless who are unable to survive all month with what they get from the public assistance. There are no requirement to meet you just need to be apart of the community they go to.
The purpose and the goal of the agency are to continue to meet the physical and spiritual needs of less fortunate residents of Bakersfield and Kern County.
Service that Jesus Shack offers are Special Christian concerts they promote and produce. They Offer Community event such as Operation back to school which will be held this year on August 9, 2008. They will be offering a performance by TODD AGNEW. They will also be handing out new back packs, a fun filled day for the youth.
They also offer a service called Street teams where they go out and make a difference in the community. Street Teams is an opportunity to reach into the hurting and needy parts of our community with food, love, and prayer. This outreach occurs the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month at 10:30 am.
Every Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Jesus Shack offers a function called Celebration. During the Celebration period everyone is welcome no matter what denomination you’re from. Celebration consists of bringing pleasure to God, not ourselves. Through worship and scripture, they provide food and offer clothing and toiletries available to assist those who need a helping hand.
Jesus Shack has around ten employees and mostly relays on volunteers they average 30 volunteers a month. They are a 501(C)3 that depends on the financial support of individuals and businesses in the community.
