May 19, 2014

While advertising media can be expensive, it is one of the best forms of advertising in today’s society simply because it reaches the target audience before any other. The way that technology has taken over, majority of us are using some form of media on a daily basis.

What is advertising? Advertising is the structured and composed nonpersonal communication of information, usually paid for and usually persuasive in nature, about products (goods, services, and ideas) by identified sponsors through various media. (Evolution of Advertising, Chp 1) Any where we look, we are bound to see some form of advertising. Flyers, billboards, posters and many other different type of ...view middle of the document...

My father owns a construction company. It has been around for over forty years. Considering how long they have been in business the first way of advertising they had was word of mouth. Eventually time changed and so did the way he advertised his company. He later began using business cards, followed by ads in the local paper. Over the next period of time he gradually started using radio stations and television commercials as well. By using these types of advertisement he began to see the numbers of his company increase. In my opinion media advertising is one of the best ways of getting your message across to your target audience. A company that comes to my mind for an example of use of media advertising is Starbucks. Starbucks is one of the largest coffee companies in America.
Advertising media has a major effect in the advertising industry. Because of advertising many companies could not have the numbers they have without it. Advertising will forever play a major role in any aspect of a business.
The way the company advertises their products and services is majority through print advertising. They know that people are always on the go and coffee is something that will get them going, and lately they have been a major incorporation to many colleges, for those late night papers that have to be written and they know that Starbucks will help to keep the going.. I know for a fact while I was in New York City I saw an advertisement for Starbucks at least on every other billboard or flash across the screen in Times Square.

To touch bases on examples of media advertising I will start with radio advertisement. Radio advertisement is one that people of all ages can relate to. It has increased a good bit over the last few years. It is cost effective and it has 24 hour availability. Have you ever been on a road trip, or simply riding down the street and during commercial breaks the station plays different ads?.
There always seems to be that one commercial that leaves a mark on you possibly with a catchy tune. I know often times I have found myself throughout the day singing or saying a phrase that I have heard on the radio.
Radio advertising Pros- advertising with radio stations can be quite helpful.  Number one reason to me is repletion.  I know many times we’ve heard catchy phrases on the radio that seem to be played over and over. Also its less expensive. Cons- radio can be a bit more expensive if you were using a celeb.  Many people use internet radios which majority of the time does not play ads. Pandora a very common radio app they have commercials but they are not local ads. Also Sirus XM radio can hurt radio advertising as well.
For most advertising with the radio they only need 30 seconds to make an impact on the target audience. Once a person hears the first couple of seconds on an commercial they will know if they want to listen or switch stations. The biggest competition with radio ads are the different music apps and sirus...
