Nursing Shortage

The medical surgical unit of sun valley in the town of moonville, county was at one point known for its care for patient under the of the nurses staff. However, as the year went by the hospital was hit hard by the economy with the shortage of nurses. The Sun Valley hospital was faced with critical crisis with nurses. However, the unemployment rates are increasingly high, and the health care system is still hiring and growing in America. Although the American Association of Colleges of Nursing is struggling to tackle the nursing shortage with litigation and strategies, Americans are afraid that the lack of nurses is affecting health care, with 40% believing that health care quality has diminished in quality (The LPN: A Practical Way to Alleviate the Nursing Shortage, 2010). However, which doubts surround the quality of care is because of the nursing shortage that expand not just in Sun Valley but in other organizations. Patients and the towns’ people of the county has observe the discomfort and disappointment of the over-worked and under-staffed nursing teams and the quality of care for patient has decrease to a call of change from the patients. Nevertheless, the state is asking Sun Valley hospital to stand by the patient ratio laws by forming a group of nurses to put together a plan that will help with the shortage of nurses. This group would decide on employee skill and experiences as well as the typical patient population. One big fear about the nursing shortage is the need for nurses will lead school and hospital to lower the standard of getting a job that requires saving the life of another (Vu, 2008).
The plan for Sun Valley hospital is that it should increase the employment for nurses while forming practices that enable him or her and the current nursing staff to work as an good team. Sun Valley hospital staff should prepare him or her selves for the nursing programs of the practice in the town of moonville. However, nurses cannot substitute for other nurses; if his or her skills are not up to standard of the program; however, including a good well knowledgeable person to the nursing team to ensure that everyone that is hire has qualified skills. Sun Valley hospital needs to operate with other administrators to raise the importance of the nursing program to value the number of new certifies nurses. The nurse’s Programs and objectives for training needs to be standardizing at a national level in accordance with the recommendations of the National Association for practical nurse education and service (The LPN: A Practical Way to Alleviate the Nursing Shortage, 2010). Research is need in Sun Valley on the factors of why nurses are leaving the hospital for jobs with new models of nursing that integrate into an effective team and high standards of care. There are other recommendation like developing the proper job description for nurses including any specialty experiences needed and making sure that the job description is clearly communicate to all current staff to prevent confusion (The LPN: A Practical Way to Alleviate the Nursing Shortage, 2010). Then put together a unit for certain program that will train nurses to work to his or her full extent of his or her authority, and last develop and implement an orientation and mentoring plan for...
